Background

The Druid Hill Park created in 1860 is owned and operated by the City of Baltimore, Maryland. It is 745 acres in total size and is home to the 55-acre Druid Hill Reservoir which provides drinking water to the City of Baltimore and surrounding counties. With newly enacted federal government drinking water regulations in place, Baltimore City decided to install new precast water storage tanks underground to keep the drinking water from potential contaminants. A critical component to construct the precast underground storage tanks was the installation of a temporarily lined stone cofferdam.

Solution

Hallaton Environmental Linings was consulted and contracted by the General Contractor to provide and install a geosynthetic liner system on one side of a temporary stone cofferdam. With a design in hand, Hallaton recommended the installation of a XR-3 Potable Water Grade Geomembrane Liner and a piping system constructed of 2″ HDPE and 6″ PVC pipes. Under enormous operational constraints, Hallaton successfully completed the geosynthetic liner installation of the temporary cofferdam in June 2018.
