The Global Waste Management Symposium (GWMS) 2020, an industry-wide technical conference on waste management, began yesterday, February 24th, in Indian Wells, California, and will run through Wednesday, February 26th. With a record breaking 700 participants at this year’s symposium, things kicked off with a keynote speech given by Tara Hemmer, Waste Management’s Senior Vice President of Field Operations for their southern tier.
Talking Trash at GWMS
Hemmer highlighted the fact that what was once seen as an invisible service— the removal, disposal and long-term effect of community waste—is now at the forefront of the news. Also discussed were a number of megatrends that are emerging outside of solid waste that will impact the way the industry thinks about waste management moving forward.
